Castaway Cottage

Castaway Cottage is family run business, at the helm is Archie who is 14 and neuro diverse. His parents Louise and Darren and Grand-Dad George who is charge of making sure the numbers add up.

After a visit to Hitchin Lavender Farm in 2017, Archie wanted to do something with the beautifully fragrant Lavender he had picked and he made soap. By 2019 the popularity of his products had grown and Castaway Cottage was established.

The ethos of the business is to create products that are kind to us and the environment. They keep ingredients simple, with many eco-friendly, organic and all cruelty-free.

All the products are 100 % handmade, and approved and certificated for use.

In the process of making the products, the team discovered a lot about the ingredients and after a lot of research have discovered some of the potential ingredients were not as friendly as they would like. Wherever possible ethical ingredients or ingredients which include ethically sourced materials are used. They search for ingredients that are kinder to the skin as well as the environment.

True to their ethos, 90% of packaging is recyclable or reusable. Packaging is compostable, recyclable or reusable. Keen to maintain minimal or zero waste in the creation of products.

Using a mix of essential oils and well-sourced fragrances from UK suppliers the products are beautifully scented with a wide variety of choice. Many of the soaps are SLS and SLES free and vegetable-based, colours are water-based and the company has a growing number of vegan products.
